Here is a recap of the Aug. 11 meeting of Greenville City Council.
Proposal: Parking garage fee increase
Council reviewed proposed parking garage fee changes during a work session on Aug. 11. The city’s parking fees were last updated in 2019. The city currently offers free parking for the first hour in its garages, $2 parking for the second hour and $1 for each additional hour. The maximum daily fee is $7.
Free parking for the first hour in city garages would continue under the proposed changes. However, the second hour fee would increase to $4, and each additional hour would increase by $2, with the daily maximum of $10.
The city is also looking to raise garage event parking fees from $5 to $10. Monthly parking rates may also be increased, including:
- Night Owl = $36 to $40
- Reserved = $97 to $110
- Regular = $72 to $80
- Lots-Reg = $60 to $65
Greenville City Mayor Knox White asked city staff to look at extending free parking to the second hour within garages. The city will continue to offer free on-street parking within the downtown area.
