Lit’l Mushroom Farm celebrates six years at Landrum Farmers Market

LANDRUM—Every Saturday morning from 8 a.m. until noon, John Hawk, the owner of Lit’l Mushroom Farm, welcomes visitors to his booth at the Landrum Farmers Market located at 221 W. Rutherford St. Hawk, who describes mushroom cultivation as his retirement hobby, has been selling mushrooms at the market for six years.

Hawk’s journey into mycology took root through diligent research and a passion for biology. “I read several good books and did a lot of research,” he shared, reflecting on his initial curiosity while he was still working. Upon his retirement, he had the time and space to explore the world of mushrooms, leading him to set up his operation right here in Landrum.

At the market, Hawk offers a rotating selection of mushroom varieties, with lion’s mane, maitake, turkey tail, and reishi being among his top cultivars. He has mushroom tinctures known for their medicinal properties, highlighting the benefits they can offer…
