Fish fry to support an historic church

The Soapstone Baptist Church fish fry is returning for an encore.  It will be next month – from noon to 6 pm at the historic church at 296 Liberia Road, Pickens.  A spry 83-year-old, Mable Owens Clarke says, “It’s no big deal to plan a lunch for several hundreds of her friends and supporters.”  The rain or shine (and eat on the grounds) event in the dining hall or take out is $30 dollars a person and all proceeds go to the church.  All proceeds go to the Soapstone Baptist Church. As a bonus, guests may tour the restored and refurbished the century old, former one-room school.  Clarke is the sixth-generation steward and matriarch of the church.  In 1999, her mother on her deathbed made the daughter promise to never let close the historic Black…..
