On This Day: Clown sightings near SC apartment complex set off nationwide ‘killer clown panic’

GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – Nine years ago, a “killer clown panic” was set off across the nation after sightings in Greenville, SC made headlines.

According to HISTORY, on Aug. 21, 2016, law enforcement in the Upstate started investigating reports of “creepy clowns” hanging around a local apartment complex, trying to lure kids into the woods.

The clown sightings were first reported at the Fleetwood Manor Apartments.

“I thought my child was seeing things, and then the next day I had about 30 kids come up to me and ask if I saw the clown in the woods,” one mother said…
