Funding approved for Greenville Zoo’s new Phillips Family Farm: City Council notes

Initial approval: Greenville Zoo’s new Phillips Family Farm

Council approved the first reading of an ordinance to appropriate $3.5 million towards the construction of the new Phillips Family Farm at the Greenville Zoo. The project is estimated to cost $3.66 million. Approximately $168,128 has been previously appropriated to the project.

Phillips Family Farm will consist of a 6,600-square-foot barn with animal holding pens and a second-floor event space. Two exhibits for Flemish Rabbits and Barn Owls will be also constructed as part of the project.

The Greenville Zoo Foundation launched a capital campaign to raise $3.4 million for the project. So far, the foundation has raised $3.38 million through private donations and state funding. An additional $100,000 will be appropriated from the Greenville Zoo Fund for the project…
