Spoonbill Gallery to host ‘My Father’s Garden’ exhibition

“My Father’s Garden: Specimens, Stories, and the Spirit of Discovery” will open Sept. 5 at Spoonbill Gallery in Greenville.

The exhibition, which will feature 37 works by Greenville artist Bess Whittington, will be at 1292 Pendleton St. through Sept. 27.

For “My Father’s Garden,” Whittington used processes like collagraph printmaking, painting, gilding and assemblage of found specimens to create her pieces.

“My work is generally centered around wildlife vignettes which invite the viewer into the natural world, said Whittington. “This show in particular takes inspiration from my experiences in my father’s garden while growing up and continuing to the present day.”…
