Halloween chills: Where, when to visit Upstate haunted houses

With Halloween just over a month away, haunted attractions across the Upstate are opening their doors and welcoming visitors for evenings filled with chills and thrills.

One of the older names in the Upstate haunted attraction business is Madworld Haunted Attractions, at 147 Country Manor Road in Piedmont. Celebrating its 15th anniversary this year, the trail will include various updates, including its latest room, which is a 1980s slasher cinema featuring a marquee, posters on the wall, and characters from “Halloween,” “Nightmare on Elm Street” and “Friday the 13th.”

“One of the biggest requests we have had over the years is ‘why don’t you do horror icons,’” said Joseph Thompson, co-owner of Madworld. “We are very excited about (it) and we know our guests are going to be as well.”…
