GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – The music of the Revolutionary War era and its significance go well beyond Yankee Doodle.
Sigal Music Museum Curator Thomas Strange said the colonists were consuming music and playing instruments just like their peers in England.
Strange said, “It was all the rage, and as soon as published music would come out, other people would pirate it and try to get their versions out as quickly as possible. It only took about a month to get from England to America. So, while the music is still alive and kicking from the musical theaters and such in London, it would be transferred over here and people would start performing it right away.”…
