LANDRUM—For Charles and Anna McClure, their business, Noddin Berry Farms at the Landrum Farmers Market, is more than just a spot to sell baked goods. It’s a place to connect with their community and share the fruits and breads of their labor. Joined often by their 11-year-old granddaughter, Ella Forthman, the McClures have become a staple at the local farmers’ market.
The McClure’s cinnamon rolls and pastries need no introduction to Market regulars. “Our specialty is cinnamon rolls—they sell out the quickest,” Anna says with pride. The stand also features apple, berry, and blueberry Danishes, flaky scones, and a variety of artisan breads. “Every time you come, we’ll probably have something new to try.”
Charles’s baking journey started with his brother, who would carry produce to the market’s old location by the railroad tracks. When the McClures found themselves with a bounty of homegrown blueberries and blackberries, they joined in, bringing fruit, jams, and eventually bread to the market table. “It just kind of grew from there,” Anna recalls. “Now it’s mostly breads and pastries, but we still make apple butter and jams from scratch.”…
