Greenville County leaders approve new protections for Paris Mountain

GREENVILLE COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) – Leaders in Greenville County introduced new zoning regulations they said will help preserve Paris Mountain and the homes of people who live nearby.

Benton Blount, Chairman of the Greenville County Council, told 7NEWS that Paris Mountain is located in an environmentally sensitive district, and this has been the case for at least a decade. He said that fact, combined with Helene’s damage, reinforced the need for new protections.

“It’s a historic place that people come from all over the country to visit. And of course, a hurricane came through. There was a lot of damage, a lot of cleanup that had to be done,” said Blount. “And ultimately, we wanted to get both the park and the other side of the mountain back into tip-top shape so people can still enjoy it.”…
