Measles outbreak continues in Upstate, Midlands child care centers on high alert

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH) — The number of measles cases continues to rise in South Carolina, as on Wednesday, October 15, the State Department of Public Health confirmed five new cases. The five new confirmations puts the total number of cases at 16, including 12 in Spartanburg County, since July 9.

State health officials have shifted their focus towards a statewide initiative and are dealing with the issue with care.

“The five new cases since the previous update are among individuals who were close contacts to known cases and none were present in any school settings while contagious,” South Carolina Epidemiologist Dr. Linda Bell said…
