Historic Black community challenges Greenville land transfer

GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – Residents of an historic Black community in Greenville are challenging a recent land transfer from the county to the city.

On Monday, Greenville City Council approved the annexation of 26 acres around Greenlink’s new maintenance facility on Arcadia Drive. Some of the land also includes parts of New Washington Heights, a neighborhood with a rich history and known for its Happy Hearts Community Center.

The community association’s spokesperson, Angela Aiken, said their concerns date back to 2013, when they worked closely with county officials to develop a neighborhood master plan, outlining revitalization initiatives like improved infrastructure and green space development…
