GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – Greenville city officials are responding to community criticism over a land transfer that happened last Monday from county to city hands, insisting they have done nothing wrong. The property includes the site of Greenlink’s new maintenance facility on Arcadia Drive and parts of the New Washington Heights, one of Greenville’s oldest historically Black neighborhoods.
In 2021, when the Greenville Transit Authority took over 26 acres to build their new facility, they held several public meetings to share plans and receive neighbor feedback. According to minutes from a meeting in April of that year, one of the community’s top priorities was to build a playground with swings and benches.
The new playground, which has neither swings nor benches, now sits on O’Jones St. next to Greenlink’s facility. Residents say they are most concerned about its location…
