Infant surrendered safely in Spartanburg County under Safe Haven Act

SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. — South Carolina Department of Social Services (DSS) reports that an infant boy was safely surrendered to the Spartanburg Regional Health System under the state’s Safe Haven for Abandoned Babies Act, also known as Daniel’s Law, on November 6, 2025.

Spartanburg County DSS took custody of the boy, born at Spartanburg Regional Hospital on November 4, and a medical evaluation was completed. The infant weighed 4 pounds, 1 ounce at birth and was 16.1 inched long. He will remain in the hospital to receive additional medical care.

A Permanency Planning Hearing and Termination of Parental Rights Hearing will be held on December 18 at 10:00 a.m. at the Spartanburg County Family Court, located at 180 Magnolia Street, Spartanburg, S.C.
