Blaze destroys longtime food pantry at Greenville Co. church

GREENVILLE COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) – A Monday evening fire at Lutheran Church destroyed a building that contained dozens of donated food items, turning a generous community contribution to ash.

Firefighters responded to a fire call around 9:30 p.m. and found an outdoor shed at Lutheran Church of Our Saviour, containing more than 400 canned goods and other non-perishable food items, engulfed in flames.

Officials said no foul play was involved, and the cause of the fire was ruled “undetermined.”

The pastor of the church said the food pantry was located at the church for over 20 years, and served as a central donation hub for other churches in the area. It was called God’s Pantry and fed over a thousand people…
