More than a dozen people, animals exposed to rabid animals in Upstate

COLUMBIA, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – The South Carolina Department of Public Health (DPH) said multiple people and animals have tested positive for rabies in the Upstate.

The DPH said in Abbeville, a skunk found near Bulls Horn and Bouchillon roads tested positive for rabies on Nov. 18. Seven dogs were exposed and will be quarantined.

Officials mentioned that a stray orange cat found near Geddy and Millrock Church roads in Gray Court also tested positive on Nov. 19. The following were exposed to the cat:

  • Six people have been referred to their health care providers.
  • Two vaccinated dogs are being quarantined.
  • One unvaccinated black and grey stray cat kept with the orange cat has been euthanized after further safety concerns were evaluated with the caretakers.
