The Harvey S. Peeler Jr. College of Veterinary Medicine at Clemson University is South Carolina’s first college dedicated to veterinary medicine. Its creation involved Clemson University, state lawmakers, veterinary professionals, and students. The goal is to improve veterinary care for people and animals in the state. Faculty and staff are working to build the new program.
Dr. Lisa Ebner is one of the founding faculty members. She grew up in Asheville, North Carolina, and became interested in veterinary medicine while caring for her family’s horse. Early experiences in animal clinics influenced her understanding of the field and the connection between people and animals.
Dr. Ebner is now a clinical professor at Clemson. She is board-certified in anesthesiology and also practices acupuncture and integrative medicine. She has helped start veterinary programs in east Tennessee and west Texas and has taught in the Caribbean. At Clemson, she is helping to design the curriculum for the first class, which will admit 80 students in 2026.
