GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – Greenville City Council passed an ordinance Monday night making it illegal for people experiencing homelessness to lie down or set up shelter on city property.
No seat was empty in City Hall as people packed in to speak about the ordinance. City Council spent nearly two hours listening to residents and debating the best way to help people without housing.
Under the ordinance, it’s now a crime to lie down on city-owned property for more than two hours or to set up tents or other forms of housing on public land. Violations can mean up to 30 days in jail or a $10 fine…
