Heavy rain expected early Tuesday

(WSPA) – Heavy, widespread rain is expected to hit the Upstate and western North Carolina late Monday into early Tuesday, with a chance of up to 1 to 3 inches of rain.

Rain is expected to start by late Monday evening, lasting throughout Monday night and into the Tuesday morning commute, before exiting the area by mid Tuesday morning. Pockets of freezing rain could also be possible in the mountains early Tuesday morning.

Areas of the Upstate and western North Carolina could see up to 1 to 3 inches of rainfall, but no flooding threat is expected.

Weather is expected to remain cold, with temperatures staying below normal through the first half of the week.
