FIRST ALERT – Warmest Christmas Eve, more records possible followed by a dramatic cold snap

GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – Greenville made history on Christmas Eve, setting a new record high of 75 degrees and breaking the previous record of 71 degrees. While the mild weather is perfect for holiday gatherings and outdoor activities, enjoy it while it lasts as a dramatic arctic blast is on the way next week.

This Week: Warm and Mostly Dry

An upper ridge of high pressure is keeping our region warm and dry through the holiday. Highs are possible again Christmas Day for both Greenville and Asheville.

Christmas Day (Thursday)

Highs are well above normal again as we fell more like fall or spring rather than winter. Highs are in the upper 60s to the mid 70s, well above the 50s we’d normally expect. A few spotty showers are possible in the mountains near the Tennessee border, but most of the region will stay dry with plenty of sunshine.

Friday: A transition day

Friday could be a bit tricky as a cold front approaches. Temperatures may vary widely depending on exactly when the front arrives — some areas could see highs in the 50s while others reach the 70s. A few light rain showers are possible, especially across North Carolina early in the day. Stay tuned to First Alert Weather for updates on timing…
