Temperatures across the Upstate are expected to drop sharply late on Dec. 29, prompting warming centers to open doors to help people escape potentially dangerous cold conditions.
According to the National Weather Service, temperatures are expected to plummet from around 60 during the day to the mid-20s in the evening. Winds moving in with the cold front are expected to drop temperatures even further.
