Upstate, WNC hospitals welcome first babies born in 2026

(WSPA) — Upstate and Western North Carolina hospitals are celebrating the first births of 2026.

Jonah Thomas Roberts – Mission Hospital

Jonah Thomas Roberts was born at Mission Hospital on Jan. 1, 2026, at 3:46 a.m., weighing 4 pounds, 10 ounces. He is the first baby of the new year, born to parents Shannon Jeffords and Travis Roberts of Marshall, N.C.

Jonah was originally due on Feb. 10, 2026, but arrived earlier than expected and is currently receiving care in Mission Hospital’s Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

Bluford Young – Prisma Health’s Patewood Hospital

Bluford Young was born at Prisma Health’s Patewood Hospital on Jan. 1, 2026, at 1:07 a.m., making him the first baby born at the facility this year. He weighed just more than 10 pounds.

Young is the son of Hayden and Jordan Young, who are excited about their new arrival.

Micah Homar Hernandez – Prisma Health’s Memorial Hospital
