Teen sentenced to eight years in brother’s killing after plea deal

A 19-year-old woman was sentenced to eight years in prison after she pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in the shooting death of her older brother outside their Anderson home.

Circuit Court Judge R. Scott Sprouse sentenced LyRique Lajada Grayson, 19, on Jan. 8, at the Anderson County Courthouse and gave her credit for the 397 days she had already spent in jail. Grayson pleaded guilty to killing her 27-year-old brother, Deonte Marquez Luster, outside their home on Squirrel Drive in early 2025.

Attorneys said the case was shaped by mental health issues and allegations of abuse when the defendant and the victim were younger, calling it one of the most unusual and difficult cases they have handled…
