Simpsonville Man Indicted for Queens Woman’s Murder Amidst Interstate Legal Pursuit

A South Carolina man has been indicted on charges of murder and criminal possession of a weapon, related to the September slaying of 21-year-old Dashanna Donovan in Elmhurst. Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz announced that the 23-year-old suspect, De’Ovryion Elijha Ray of Simpsonville, South Carolina, allegedly shot Donovan once in the head before fleeing the state.

After a pursuit that stretched across state lines, with the NYPD and Katz’s office working in tandem, Ray was apprehended on October 8 in South Carolina. “My office secured the indictment of the defendant for the murder of Dashanna Donovan. We allege that the defendant shot her in the head and then fled the state in an attempt to avoid accountability,” Katz said, according to an announcement from the Queens District Attorney’s Office. Refusing to waive an extradition hearing initially, Ray was served today with a governor’s warrant for his extradition in Laurens County, South Carolina.

At the court appearance, Ray was informed of the charges against him, having faced the indictment charges: murder in the second degree and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree.
