Power On, a partnership between the City of Greenville and Duke Energy, is helping homeowners bury electrical service lines by providing up to $3,000 in subsidies for burial and up to $300 for meter box upgrades.
“They designed it to make it fast and easy,” said Paul Halphen, a participant in the program. “You’re going to get a new product that makes it safer and prettier at no cost. All you have to do is go through the process.”
The average cost to bury overhead service lines in Greenville is $2,900, meaning many participants — including Halphen — pay nothing out of pocket. Homeowners whose projects exceed the $3,000 subsidy have 30 days to decide whether to pay the difference or opt out of the program…
