Historic NASCAR track facing demolition as developer branded ‘liar’

Historic South Carolina NASCAR track, Greenville Pickens Speedway, could be demolished, with the developer being branded a “liar” in scathing opposition. Greenville Pickens Speedway hosted the first-ever race broadcast start-to-finish on national TV in 1971.

With redevelopment plans looming, senior producer at FloRacing, Matthew Dillner, is claiming the promises made about preserving its legacy are false. Dillner took to X to expose what he claims have been lies about the historical NASCAR track.

He had planned to make a trip to Greenville Pickens Speedway this week. However, conditions on the East Coast, as shown with the delay of the Cook Out Clash at Bowman Gray in North Carolina, “have that trip doubtful” as the battle rumbles on. The update on Greenville comes after Auto Club Speedway in Southern California was captured in a derelict state.
