Greenville County considers controversial development ordinance

GREENVILLE COUNTY, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – As Greenville County continues to grow, so does pushback from residents trying to protect their land. From Paris Mountain to Owens Glen and most recently Pebble Creek, community opposition has stalled several proposed developments.

In an effort to slow urban sprawl, the county’s Planning and Development Commission spent much of its meeting Monday discussing a development ordinance known as 3.1.

The ordinance sparked controversy between 2018 and 2021 after drawing legal action from developers. Now, less than a decade after it was repealed, some county leaders want to bring it back.
