Greer votes to close Moore Street for railroad crossing safety: City Council notes

Approved: Ordinance to close portion of Moore Street

Council approved the first of two readings of an ordinance to close a portion of Moore Street in order to improve safety at a railroad crossing.

The measure would abandon and close the portion of Moore Street between South Line and 1st streets.

During discussion prior to the vote, Deputy City Administrator Mike Sell explained the city was approached by the state Department of Transportation about improving the safety of the railroad crossing on that portion of Moore Street. At issue is the position of the crossing arms, which do not adequately prevent traffic from turning onto an active rail line…
