After years of controversy, giant Confederate flag removed in Spartanburg

SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WACH) — A 120-foot flagpole that for years hoisted a Confederate battle flag above Interstate 85 is no longer standing.

The flag was removed days after a Spartanburg County judge cleared the way for local officials to enforce zoning rules against the group that built the structure, Adam Washington Ballenger Camp of the Sons of Confederate Veterans.
