South Carolina is waking up to howling winds sweeping down from the mountains into Greenville and Spartanburg. Tree tops sway hard, and loose debris skitters across driveways. The air feels sharply colder as gusts strengthen through the morning.
The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg warns of strong, gusty winds across Upstate South Carolina, northeast Georgia, and western North Carolina today and tonight. Gusts between 50 and 65 mph are possible over the higher peaks, with widespread gusts across the Piedmont. Even outside the mountains, wind chills will tumble into the teens tonight and early Monday.
