After husband’s Alzheimer’s diagnosis, Upstate woman found no playbook for finding care

GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – When Amy McConnell’s husband Tom was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s disease at 55, she began searching for care — and quickly found there was no clear roadmap to follow.

Her experience comes as South Carolina’s Attorney General’s Office reports a rise in fraud, abuse and financial exploitation cases targeting vulnerable adults in care facilities.
