Oscar nominee Danielle Brooks answers 5 questions while in Greenville

For more than a decade, Broadway and Hollywood have been home to Danielle Brooks — an award-winning actress, Juilliard School graduate, and Greenville native.

On Feb. 28, the Grammy Award recipient (Best Musical Theater Album for ‘The Color Purple’) and Academy Award nominee (Best Supporting Actress for ‘The Color Purple’) returned to her roots in Greenville and at the South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts & Humanities, championing the Century Cycle Continues Monologue Competition — a scholarship event to help high schoolers realize the same possibilities she experienced during her adolescent years.

“I thank God for the Governor’s School. It really did help nurture me enough to go to Juilliard,” said Brooks. “I’m excited to start this monologue competition. This is my way of giving back to the community that gave back to me, for the next generation.”…
