Deputies: Upstate murder suspect facing new charges after causing issues in jail, threatening employee

ANDERSON, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – The Anderson County Detention Center said a murder suspect has been additionally charged after causing issues inside the detention center.

New warrants show Derek Mekel Snyder was charged with malicious injury, prisoner contraband and threatening life, person or family of pubic officials.

Officials said threatened a female detention officer and her family members. He also made a threat to “place a hit on her”.

Snyder is accused of lighting a blanket on fire, sharpening a piece of ceramic with the intention of using it as a potential weapon and successfully damaging a surveillance camera inside a cell, according to warrants…
