Anderson County launches database to help ID deceased persons

ANDERSON COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) – With an influx of people moving to the area, the Anderson County Coroner’s Office said it can be challenging at times to track down next of kin when someone passes away.

They’re hoping a next-of-kin database will change that.

“Probably the most important demographic group that we’re trying to reach is people who do not have family members living locally, as well as some of the older population. Sometimes they live by themselves. Also, people who may not have permanent housing — they might not necessarily be homeless, but they could move from one house to another frequently,” said Alyssa Whitfield with the Anderson County Coroner’s Office.

The Anderson County Coroner’s Office has used a database to keep track of family contacts for two years now, but with the influx of people moving to the area, officials say they need more people to know about it…
