Inside Greenville’s first Michelin-starred restaurant

GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – In 2025, Greenville hosted the inaugural Michelin Guide to the American South. One local restaurant came away with the city’s first-ever Michelin star: Scoundrel, owned and operated by Chef Joe Cash.

Scoundrel opened in 2022 at 18 North Main Street in downtown Greenville. Cash, a Greenville native who got his start in local kitchens, has built the restaurant into one of the top-rated dining spots in the city.

A deliberate dining experience

Cash said the goal from the beginning was to create a space where guests could step away from the outside world.

“When we built the place, we really wanted the first thing you do is to feel like you’re kind of stepping out of downtown Greenville,” Cash said. “You walk in, you see a photo of Iggy Pop up there, just to kind of loosen the mood.”…
