New traffic pattern aims to improve safety and reduce congestion

SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) – A new traffic pattern is coming to a busy intersection—one that will not only improve safety but also help first responders.

The four-way stop connecting Gap Creek Road, Gary Armstrong Road, and Hampton Road in Spartanburg County is looking a lot different these days.

“We’re converting that four-way stop into a roundabout. Roundabouts offer a significant safety improvement over traditional four-way intersections because they minimize the number of what some people would call T-bone crashes,” said Kelly Moore, Deputy Chief of Staff with SCDOT. “They’re also doing some drainage improvements to make sure that when we have any kind of stormwater, it runs off the roadway.”…
