Grants fund restoration of historic courthouse, former resort’s pavilion

LEWISTOWN, Pa. (WHTM) — Historic preservation grants were awarded in our area earlier this month and we’re learning more about projects they will fund in Cumberland and Mifflin counties.

The Pennsylvania Historic and Museum Commission announced the most recent round of Keystone Historic Preservation Grant funds earlier in June.

Mifflin County Courthouse

In Mifflin County, $92,000 is going towards a project to repair and restore the front entrance of the Mifflin County Historic Courthouse on Monument Square in Lewistown.

“The courthouse building has always been a place of prominence in Lewistown and the county as a whole, from the first courthouse built in the late 1780s at the corner of Main and Water streets to the present and third courthouse which opened its doors in 1843,” Rep. Kerry Benninghoff (R-Mifflin/Centre) said. “It is a vital part of our history, and history needs and deserves to be maintained and preserved for future generations.”…
