DAUPHIN COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM) — A man was convicted Tuesday of kidnapping a child and prompting an hours-long standoff with law enforcement in a Harrisburg neighborhood, according to the district attorney.
Antonio Hammond was found guilty by a jury on kidnapping, burglary, receiving stolen property, flight to avoid apprehension and two firearm charges, according to Dauphin County District Attorney Fran Chardo. He was acquitted on his aggravated assault charge.
Chardo said police officers spotted Hammond and what appeared to be a handgun in the Hall Manor community May 30, 2023. Hammond ran away and entered into a stranger’s apartment. As Hammond was running, he drew the pistol and pointed at an officer, pulling the trigger but no round was in the chamber.

Hammond barricaded himself inside the apartment that was occupied at the time. Chardo said Hammond then took a two-year-old child hostage and made the child’s mother record him with a cell phone. The resident was able to eventually escape, along with another child of theirs…
