‘Hell House’: Crews rescue 8 cats from York County hoarding situation; at least 10 dead

YORK COUNTY, Pa. (WHP) — Roaches, bed bugs, mice, and fleas were just the beginning of what Castaway Critters stepped into when working to rescue several cats from an “indescribable” hoarding situation in York County.

The foundation took to Facebook Tuesday evening to announce that, after months of trying to get help, Castaway Critters stepped in to help cats of various ages that all need medical care.

“The smell of ammonia required special respirators and HAZMAT suits,” the Castaway Critters wrote on Facebook describing the Glen Rock home.

Castaway Critters workers said that, while they were able to help pull eight of more than 20 cats of various ages from the home, they did not make it in time to save more than 10 cats.

The scene, with garbage piled and spread everywhere, was something “similar to the rubble of a tornado or hurricane” that had come through the home, the foundation noted…
