MECHANICSBURG, P.a. (WHTM) — The Cumberland Valley Aquatic Club tapped some serious star power for a special swim clinic on Saturday, as Olympic gold medalist and world champion Lilly King hopped in the pool to teach young swimmers her technique.
King, who won two gold medals at the 2016 games in Rio, was happy to visit the Midstate and help the next generation of swimmers work toward her level of success.
“I definitely went to my fair share of clinics when I was a kid,” King said. “To be able to come to different clubs and to be able to give back is always fun and I just like to come out and share my story and hopefully help somebody along like I was helped when I was as a kid, it’s super fun.”
The clinics are a solid substitute for King’s usual Olympic workouts, as every swimmer wants to race an Olympian.
“I definitely get tired racing the kids at the end,” King said. “It’s like every single kid, one after the other, it’s a little harder with the big kids because the older boys will usually try to save up to beat me toward the end so we’ll see what happens today.”
