Here’s one of the best pieces of advice a former editor and mentor gave to journalists in our newsroom: Get out in the community! News doesn’t happen in the office.
It happens out on the streets, in businesses, schools, parks, sports fields, community and government meetings – and so many other places.
That’s where we need our people.
Sure, a lot of journalism happens on the phone – reaching out to sources and contacts.
But the pandemic, as terrible and isolating as it was, taught us that you don’t necessarily need a centralized office to produce great journalism.
You need the digital tools to collaborate and communicate and deliver the news quickly – online and in print.
And most importantly, you need strong journalists who are connected and committed to informing the community.
At the Lebanon Daily News, we have the tools and the journalists: Matt Toth and Dan Larlham.
That is where we need to invest our resources rather than in expensive real estate.
So, effective Feb. 13, the Lebanon Daily News will close its office at 718 Poplar St.
