York and Adams counties are under a winter storm warning, with heavy snow expected Friday night, Feb. 16, into Saturday, the National Weather Service in State College said in a release.
Heavy snowfall of three to six inches is expected between the hours of 9 p.m. Friday night and 9 a.m. Saturday morning, the weather service said.
Affected areas include the cities of Chambersburg, Carlisle, Gettysburg, York, and Lancaster, the release said.
“Travel could be very difficult,” according to the release, which warned motorists to delay unnecessary travel as the snow will make roadways hazardous.
The warning has led numerous area municipalities to declare snow emergencies, as well as PennDOT to implement speed restrictions.
The Borough of Gettysburg expects to declare a snow emergency, according to a release by the Gettysburg borough manager.
Snow may fall as much as an inch per hour Saturday morning, the release by Gettysburg said. The declaration will go into effect once two inches of snow has fallen.
