Man shot, killed, prompting heavy police response in Harrisburg

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) — A man is dead after a reported shooting sparked a heavy police presence including a tactical response.

Harrisburg Police were called to the unit block of North 14th Street around 5 p.m. Friday for a report of shots fired.

There, a man had been struck and killed by gunfire.

The Dauphin County Coroner’s Office was at the scene of the police incident along with units from Harrisburg Police, Capitol Police, Derry Township, Susquehanna Township, and the Dauphin County Crisis Response Team at 14th and Shrub Streets in the city. They remained at the scene as of 8 p.m.

Photos from the scene showed several officers pointing weapons at a home, and other officers dressed in tactical gear staged outside.

A roughly two block radius around 14th and Shrub was closed off.

“Because we made entry only onto the first floor, we weren’t aware of who was on the second or third floors,” Captain Atah Akakpo-Martin told abc27 News. “At that point, we just cleared out and we used techniques and tactics to safely go through the rest of the residence.”
