Harrisburg State Hospital long served Pennsylvanians with mental illnesses Column

For more than a century and a half, the Harrisburg State Hospital treated Pennsylvanians with mental illnesses before its closure nearly 20 years ago. Recently, the state Department of General Services submitted a plan to develop a laboratory complex on the former hospital grounds to the Susquehanna Township Planning Commission, which recommended it for approval last week. The proposal will ultimately need to be passed by the township commissioners.
