‘Gloves Up, Guns Down’ event to promote non-violence in York to take place this weekend

Stick N Move Boxing, a local non-profit organization dedicated to making a positive impact in the lives of students, is hosting its first ‘Gloves Up, Guns Down’ event for the community.

The fundraising event will take place this Saturday, Oct. 12, at 3 p.m., at Voni Grimes Gym. Geared toward addressing violence in the community and offering the local youth with a sports-based outlet, the community event is being organized by Sitck N Move’s founder, Antwoine Dorm, a Behavior Specialist at York City School District, who’s been boxing since he was five years old.

For Dorm, this is an opportunity to bring local businesses and community leaders together, all united in the goal of promoting peace and using boxing as a tool for youth development.

He started the nonprofit in 2009 as a way to introduce local students to a healthy, productive after-school outlet, to learn, grow and “keep kids out of the streets.” He and his team offer extensive boxing instruction and wellness opportunities to their students.
