Lancaster County officer-involved shooting ruled homicide

LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM) – The Lancaster County Coroner’s office has ruled the officer-involved shooting death of an Elizabethtown man as a homicide.

On November 3 around 1:43 a.m., the Lancaster County District Attorney’s office says Andrew Ward arrived at the Northwest Regional Police Station after he was arrested for DUI about four hours prior. The DA’s office says Ward has been processed and released before returning to speak with officers about his personal property.

The DA’s office says an officer spoke with Ward before requesting backup. Details on what occurred next have not been disclosed other than that Ward was fatally shot and a handgun registered to Ward was recovered at the scene.

According to the coroner’s report Ward died from gunshot wounds to the body.

The District Attorney’s office says they are investigating and were assisted by Pennsylvania State Police with crime scene processing. The DA’s office will make a final determination on the use of deadly force once the investigation concludes.
