York County school access road installed against neighborhood opposition

YORK TOWNSHIP, Pa. (WHTM) — An update on a plan to connect a dead-end road with a York County elementary school against neighborhood opposition.

The plan went through and Merrin Road is now a drop-off route for York Township Elementary School.

Neighbors’ worst fears of cars parked all along the road haven’t come to pass, but they say their quality of life is lower than it was before.

“It’s about 50 cars overall,” Jerry Smith, a neighbor, said. “But like myself, I like to walk my dog and use the road for recreation and this makes it very difficult because of all the traffic. When we have bigger vehicles that are coming up and down the road, there’s not enough clearance for other vehicles to get by them.”

The Dallastown School District wanted to get cars off Queen Street and neighbors still believe the plan was illegal. They are continuing to work with an attorney to fight it.
