Riders of the Harrisburg region’s mass transit system may have been shocked to learn that the state’s chronic underfunding of transit isn’t just a Pittsburgh or Philadelphia problem. See the story “Harrisburg public transit nearing fiscal cliff as Gov. Shapiro pushes for budget deal.”

Rabbittransit says it is about a year away from financial calamity. Increased operating costs and stagnant public support has pushed the agency to a fiscal cliff. They’re not alone. Fare hikes and service cuts are becoming the norm for transit systems statewide.

All 67 counties have some form of public transit. People rely on these rides to get to and from their jobs, reach crucial medical care, make it to class, visit family and friends, and meet other basic needs that are a necessary part of daily life…
