Harrisburg Jewish congregation begins writing new Torah as fundraising campaign kicks off

Much like a muscle, faith weakens faster when it isn’t used – a concept that extends to the physical scripture itself, members of Chisuk Emuna were told Sunday.

The Jewish congregation, located in uptown Harrisburg, kicked off a fundraising and community-building initiative that includes the inscribing of a new Torah scroll, a once-in-a-generation experience for many Jews.

“Our commitment to the Torah is our commitment to God,” Rabbi Menachem Elkayam told the congregation, and “the Torahs that need less fixing are the ones that are used the most.”…
