Nestled on top of a tight turn of Met-Ed power lines, next to the roaring trucks of Interstate 83, along a township road that bisects Lake Redman, an osprey family decided that it was the perfect location to set up housekeeping. However, it’s not ideal because of danger to the protected species from the live power lines and the potential of creating a power outage.
A new pole with a 50-foot platform was recently placed by Met-Ed next to the current nest as part of a plan to offer future osprey nests a safer alternative and lower the risk of power outages. The utility worked with the Pennsylvania Game Commission to erect the new platform.
